Recently, I have found it really hard to get to bed at night. I don’t know if it’s from stress, or because I’m getting sick, but I can’t for the life of me catch any sleep. It takes upwards of 3 hours of laying in bed, eyes wide open, to finally find some sort of sleep. I’m not even on my phone or laptop. If I even get on my phone, it’s to pull up those ASMR Youtube videos (they rarely help me anyway). I sit there in the darkness, and listen to the normal house sounds. The scratching in the attic, creaking floorboards, tapping on the walls.
Before you say anything, I have tried taking melatonin. Anything that I thought would knock me out, I take it. Doesn’t work.
More often than not, I hear knocking on the window. Kinda weird, if you ask me. It doesn’t really bother me that much. It’s pretty rhythmic, and it’ll help lull me to sleep on later nights.
I think what bothers me the most is when I’m really close to falling asleep, and the bed starts moving. I can feel weight shifting, and it reminds me of a cat hopping into bed with me. I mean, it’d be sweet if I had a cat to cuddle with. But I’ve never owned any pets in this house. I had 2 kitties at my parent’s house, but I didn’t take them with me.
But anyway, whatever climbs on top of me, it’s pretty heavy. Makes it hard to breathe sometimes, but I don’t ever check. I’m so close to sleep, I rather not waste a moment.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I do sometimes…haunted by memories that shouldn’t matter. I read almost every night now. Get a little reading light ($10 on Amazon) and find some literary fiction (I’ve got plenty of recommendations and a few of them are in my room). Reading alters which brain waves are being used and some are more conducive to sleeping than others. I wait until I find my eyes shutting 3 times before I click the light off and put the book away…then if I can’t sleep, I get the book back out and continue reading. Works every time! And if it doesn’t, at least you’re knocking out a few books. : )
