Ode to the Loved and Lost

Sinew was caught in my teeth, and with every gargle of water-

I could still taste the iron of a failed love.

The tears that reaped my face, now sat heavy on my tongue.

I wonder how you would react to see me now—

Like a savage animal, no doubt.

You always had that regard towards me

Or rather, disregard.

You may pretend I am nothing,

But we both know the games we play alone.

However, you can no longer judge me, for I am above you.

I have grown to be something lesser than godly.

I am as animal as you

We play our games like rabbits, but it was so unfortunate that I was lesser;

A fox, disguised as a friend.

A cannibal, disguised as a lover.
